In response to the letter of the representatives of the media about the discussion of the report of Human Rights Defender (Ombudsperson) Larisa Alaverdyan on 2005 Ombudsperson’s activity in the National Assembly, addressed to Artur Baghdasaryan, President of the National Assembly, we inform that:
According to Article 17 of RA law on Ombudsman: “During the first quarter of each year the Ombudsman submits to RA President, legislative, executive and judicial powers a report on his/her activity during the previous year and violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the country, and during NA spring session it’s submitted to the MPs at NA session. The Ombudsman also submits to the mass media and appropriate public organizations.” Taking as a basis the demand of the law, the report will be put on the agenda of the four-day sittings prescribed by law.
Taking into account that the powers of the first Human Rights Defender (Ombudsperson) have been suspended on January 5 (according to Article 27 of the law on Ombudsman) and according to Article 17 of the same law the submission of the report on the violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms is only reserved to the Ombudsman, an Ombudsman will be elected at the first four-day sittings of NA spring session, and by prescribed law the annual report will be submitted to the National Assembly, where certainly the 2005 Ombudsperson’s activity report will be included.
