On September 18, the RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan received the Delegation led by Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, who arrived in Yerevan on an official visit. After the solemn reception, Simonyan-Pelosi private conversation followed. Afterwards the interlocutors joined the discussion in an extended format.

The RA NA Speaker noted that the U.S. has a key role in the political and economic life.

“Dear friend, your visit to Armenia takes place in the gravest period for our country, and in that respect it is more appreciated. As you know from September 13, Azerbaijan has launched a new phase of aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia. The Azerbaijani armed forces severely bombed not only the border positions of Armenia, but also numerous settlements and civilian infrastructure. Unfortunately, we have human casualties,” Alen Simonyan noted. He thanked his colleague for the agreement of the fragile ceasefire reached by the mediation of the United States in the evening of September 14, as well as expressed his gratitude to the U.S power, including the members of the Congress for the targeted assessment in recent developments.

The sides discussed issues regarding the security of Armenia and the region, including details on the further processes in the UN Security Council.

At the meeting the projects of further inter-parliamentary cooperation were also touched upon. At the end of the meeting, the RA NA Speaker and the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives made a statement.

Thanking the NA Speaker for the reception, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives noted: “When we go to a country, the security is very important for us. We did not know that our visit will coincide with the days following the military actions. In the United States we are proud of being surrounded by patriot Armenians, who are also our citizens. They are our force, the important component of our integrity,” Nancy Pelosi said.

After the meeting Alen Simonyan and Nancy Pelosi will make announcement for the mass media.
