On June 17 the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs organized parliamentary hearings on “The Decision and Substantiation for the Electricity Tariff Changes by the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission,” where representatives of the legislative and executive bodies, NGOs and media took part.
The key speaker, the Chairman of the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission Robert Nazaryan informed the attendees that on June 3 the Commission had made a statement on beginning the process of reviewing the electricity tariffs, and in a week the certificate on the factors, on the basis of which the electricity system tariffs had been reviewed, was posted.
The CJSC High Voltage Electric Networks, the CJSC International Energy Corporation, the CJSC Yerevan Thermal Power Plant, the CJSC Armenian Nuclear Power Plant provided information on the causes of the financial shortfall.
Robert Nazaryan answered numerous questions on the substantiations of electricity tariff rise and other factors of possible influence on the tariff.
Exchange of thoughts took place on the issue under debate. The NA deputies in their speeches touched upon the necessity of increase of management efficiency in the sphere of energy, the monopoly supervision, the diversification of the system, the development of alternative energy, and electricity saving.
In their final speeches the Chairman of the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission Robert Nazaryan and the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs thanked for the concerning debates and proposed to create a working group for regulating with joint efforts the problems existing in the sphere. It is going to thoroughly study and submit recommendation on the improvement of the legislation regulating the sphere and the elaboration of mechanisms for the increase of management efficiency.
