On November 7, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received Giuseppe Galati and Alan Meale, co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for Armenia.
Ara Babloyan welcomed the co-rapporteurs’ visit to the parliament and touched upon the processes, which had begun after the constitutional reforms in our country.
The Head of the parliament thanked the guests for the cooperation with Armenia and the activities promoting the strengthening of democracy in our country.
The RA NA President highly assessed the support shown to Armenia by the co-rapporteurs in the process of the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by the membership.
In the context of the on-going changes in Armenia Ara Babloyan underlined the role and significance of the parliament. According to the Head of the parliament, the National Assembly has always had an important role, however now its opportunities and authorities are more expanded and the responsibility has increased.
The PACE co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by Armenia addressed questions concerning them to the RA NA President.
The interlocutors discussed issues relating to the recent political developments going on in Armenia, the reforms of the electoral system, the implementation of the constitution, the judicial independence and the fight against corruption.
Alan Meale and Giuseppe Galati expressed their readiness to deepen the cooperation with Armenia.
