Sargis Khandanyan’s Candidacy Nominated in the Position of NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations

At February 8 sitting, the parliament debated the issue of the election of the Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly.

The Civil Contract Faction nominated Sargis Khandanyan’s candidacy in the vacant position of the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.

The Secretary of the Civil Contract Faction Artur Hovhannisyan presented the candidate’s biography and work career. Sargis Khandanyan was elected NA deputy on June 20, 2021 through the national electoral list of the Civil Contract Party. The candidate is a Head of the Armenian Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Co-Chair of the Euronest PA Committee on Social Affairs.

“I am sure that Mr Khandanyan will at best fulfill his powers and duties stemming from the Chair of the Committee,” Artur Hovhannisyan concluded his word.

The candidate thanked the Civil Contract Faction for nominating him in the position of the Committee Chair. Sargis Khandanyan also thanked the former Chair of the Committee Eduard Aghajanyan for heading the Committee in the hard phase for our country and fulfilling his duties at best.

“The Committee on Foreign Relations has an important role in terms of organizing the parliamentary diplomacy work. To face the security and foreign political challenges of Armenia, to make the words of our country and foreign policy more perceivable and visible it is important to actively continue use the whole toolset of the parliamentary diplomacy and be more initiative in that issue,” the rapporteur noted.

Sargis Khandanyan also spoke about the urgent activities of the Committee, and in general, the parliamentary diplomacy, touched upon the RA foreign political priorities, presented his insights on them.

Concluding his word, Sargis Khandanyan assured that in case of being elected, as always, now during his activities, he would be led by the principles of the protection of the RA state interests, independence and sovereignty and would try to be proactive and accountable as much as possible.

The candidate answered the deputies’ questions, which referred to the activities of the Committee, the activation of the cooperation with other bodies, the foreign policy pursued by the RA authorities, the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem, etc.

“Today the humanitarian situation in Nagorno Karabakh, the implementation of the ethnic cleansing policy by Azerbaijan towards the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh prove that, first of all, we should create stable guarantees for ensuring the rights and security of the Nagorno Karabakh Armenians,” Sargis Khandanyan underlined.
