The deputy of the Civil Contract faction Sisak Gabrielyan proposes amendments to the law on Physical Culture and Sport with the need to apply the principles and norms of international law in the field of sports, as well as conditioned by the imperative to comply with the current requirements introduced to the field.
The initiative is also due to the letter addressed by the World Anti-Doping Agency to Anti-Doping Agency State Non-Commercial Organization of Armenia, in which there is a requirement to make amendments and addenda to the articles of the law on Physical Culture and Sport adopted in 2001, regarding the definition of doping and anti-doping activities.
As a result of the amendments related to doping norms and rules, the RA's obligations to comply with the mandatory legal norms defined by the World Anti-Doping Code will be fulfilled.
According to the author of the initiative, the Chair of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Sisak Gabrielyan, the draft was debated from the first to the second reading with the relevant structure.
The rapporteur emphasized that the amendments should enter into force by April 1, so that none of our athletes will be disqualified this year.
The initiative was highlighted by both the MPs and the co-reporter, the RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Karen Giloyan.
The issue was debated at the extraordinary sitting of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport on February 24 in the second reading and was endorsed.
