On November 22 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan had a private talk with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Luis Almagro.
The Head of the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry highlighted the first official visit of the President of the Armenian Parliament to Uruguay and expressed confidence that it would give new quality to the Armenian-Uruguayan high level relations. To his conviction, the inter-parliamentary relations have an important role and significance in the development of inter-state relations. Luis Almagro has stressed that the Uruguayan authorities treat the Armenian community with big respect and warmth.
Hovik Abrahamyan highly assessed the relations of Armenia with the friendly Uruguay, highlighted the further deepening of inter-parliamentary relations and the activation of cooperation in different spheres.
The sides stressed with satisfaction the fact of close cooperation between the two friendly countries in international instances, by the principle of mutual support, which, certainly, will be of continuous character.
The NA President thanked Mr Almagro for the viewpoint sounded on the Karabakh problem during the forum organized by the Armenian National Council of Uruguay and Aruguay-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group held in Montevideo in September 2011. He has said in particular:
“The Nagorno Karabakh has been and at present is directly connected with Armenia, its Armenian population and the independence of Karabakh or in future its joining to Armenia is the best way for Nagorno Karabakh.” Responding to Mr Abrahamyan, the Foreign Minister of Uruguay noted that Uruguay, being the first country recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide, laid the basis for the process of internationally recognizing the Genocide and added that now it is ready to assist in every issue concerning the interests of Armenia.
In the course of the meeting other issues were also discussed.
