On February 10, the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs moderated by Hovhannes Sahakyan convened an extraordinary sitting to approve the submission of the applications on the candidates of the Human Rights Defender and debate the draft decision “On the Order of Proposing Candidate to the National Assembly for Electing in the Post of the Human Rights Defender (HRD).”
The Committee Chairman Hovhannes Sahakyan informed those present that the Committee received 4 applications: the NA deputies Edmon Marukyan and Hovhannes Margaryan proposed the NA deputy Zaruhi Postnajyan’s candidacy, Tigran Urikhanyan proposed Narek Aloyan’s candidacy, the deputies Hovhannes Sahakyan, Gagik Martirosyan, Robert Sargsyan, Hrant Grigoryan, Levon Martirosyan and Vahram Mkrtchyan proposed Arman Tatoyan’s candidacy, and Naira Zohrabyan proposed Makar Yeghiazaryan’s candidacy which was approved due to lack of legal basis.
The Committee approved the candidates’ proposal.
Debating the issue of the draft decision “On the Order of Proposing Candidate to the National Assembly for Electing in the Post of the Human Rights Defender (HRD),” the Committee made a decision to provide 20 minutes, and 5 minutes to the deputy (one of the deputies) for Q & A to present their proposed candidate.
The Committee Chairman informed that the members of the Committee will make their choice among the candidates of the Human Rights Defender at the sitting of February 12 of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.
