February 19 is the birthday of the distinguished Armenian poet Hovhannes Tumanyan, and since 2008 that day in Armenia has marked Book Presenting Day. That day different literary events are held. One of the festive traditions of the day is to present interesting books to each other.
To make this day memorable high senior schoolchildren of a number of schools of Yerevan visited the National Assembly, and the NA Deputy Speakers Eduard Sharmazanov and Hermine Naghdalyan met with them. In the word of the Head of the General Education Department of Yerevan Municipality Gayane Soghomonyan, the pupils' wish was to visit the National Assembly and present books.
The Deputy Speakers urged the children to effectively use the educational years, read much and get knowledge.
In consistence with the day, which has become a national holiday, the NA Deputy Speakers presented to the schoolchildren the poem “Book of Lamentations” by the Armenian great poet and philosopher Grigor Narekatsi and other valuable books. Eduard Sharmazanov and Hermine Naghdalyan expressed hope that the “Book of Lamentations” will become a guidebook in their life. The schoolchildren presented the Armenian and foreign writers’ works to the NA Deputy Speakers.
