On December 17, the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs moderated by Taguhi Tovmasyan convened an extraordinary sitting.
At the core of the debate was the issue of the candidacy nominated by the NA Civil Contract Faction in the post of the Human Rights Defender (HRD). The nominated candidate was Kristinne Grigoryan.
The member of the NA Civil Contract Faction Vladimir Vardanyan has presented the candidate’s biographical data, noting that she has long-year professional experience, especially in the spheres, which reefer to the activity of the Ombudsman’s Institute.
The deputy of the NA Armenia Faction Aregnaz Manukyan has noted that, according to the Constitution. The HRD can be a person enjoying high authority in the society and and asked how it was decided that very person is Kristinne Grigoryan. Responding to Aregnaz Manukyan, Vladimir Vardanyan has underlined that having authority is a criterion, and the National Assembly will give evaluation through election.
Thanking the Faction for nominating her candidacy, Kristinne Grigoryan has noted that the HRD Institute has passed an impressive path of development and today it is one of the established Institutes. According to the candidate, former Ombudsmen Larisa Alaverdyan, Armen Harutyunyan, Karen Andreasyan and the present HRD Arman Tatoyan had their undeniable contribution to the establishment of that Institute.
In Kristinne Grigoryan’s opinion, in security issues it is necessary to strengthen the fundamental principle of ensuring human rights, consistently advancing the ideas of creation of the border zone and the recovery and preservation of the normal life of the peaceful population.
The items on candidacy of Kristinne Grigoryan and nominating her candidate for that post to the National Assembly were approved by the Committee.
