On December 2 the official visit of the delegation led by RA NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan to the Republic of Korea began. The delegation comprises the RA NA Chief of Staff Mr. Gegham Gharibjanyan, MPs Hovhannes Margaryan (Country of Law), Armen Abrahamyan (Prosperous Armenia) and Ara Nranyan (ARF Dashnaksutyun).
In Seoul Prime Minister RA NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan met the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Mr. Chung Woon Chan.
Expressing his gratitude for warm reception Mr. Abrahamyan noted that Armenia highlighted the development of bilateral relations with the Asian regional leading countries, in this context considering necessary the expansion of cooperation with the Republic of Korea. The NA Speaker opined that the mutual sympathy was laid in the basis of bilateral relations, which was also conditioned by the resemblance of the passed historical difficult path of two peoples and current challenges.
In the aspect of further expansion and deepening of bilateral inter-state cooperation the NA Speaker highlighted the activation of the relations between the parliaments of the two countries and expressed conviction that big potential exists for further development and strengthening of relations between Armenia and Korea. He underlined the necessity of cooperation in trade-economic, scientific-educational, cultural, agricultural and other spheres. Mr. Abrahamyan noted with content that certain advance had been registered during the last years in the trade-economic sphere between the two countries, but the prevailing part of the goods turnover between Armenia and Korea was implemented through the third countries. In this context he also considered important the direct contacts of the businessmen of the two countries. In the aspect of strengthening of friendship of the two peoples the NA Speaker highlighted the organization of cultural joint programmes and Days of Culture.
Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that Armenia is interested in the development of information technologies, and taking into account the achievements of Korea in this sphere, proposed also to develop cooperation in this direction: in particular, specialists’ training, implementation of joint programmes. A successful example of cooperation is the cooperation with GS Group Company, which is one of the biggest private companies of the South Korea.
Welcoming the guests, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Mr. Chung Woon Chan noted that from 1982, when diplomatic relations had been established between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Korea, RA NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan was the first Armenian high-ranking official, who had arrived on an official visit in Korea. Highlighting the development of partnership between the two countries in different directions the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea considered as priority to develop the cooperation in the spheres of education, culture and science. “Both Armenia and Korea, not having rich natural resources had achievements in the economy and other spheres due to mental big potential,” Mr. Chung Woon Chan.
During the meeting the partners discussed issues concerning the overcoming of financial-economic crisis, implementation of joint programmes and other issues of bilateral interest.
On the same day the delegation led by RA NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan visited Samsung Electronics Company, where the general director presented the directions of the activity of the Armenian parliamentary delegation and the latest achievements.
