On December 10 RA National Assembly Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan met President of Latvia Mr. Valdis Zatlers, who was on an official visit in Armenia
Welcoming the delegation led by President Zatlers in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Abrahamyan expressed satisfaction with this state According to RA NA Speaker, the Armenian-Latvian relations are at high level, especially in the political sphere. Mr. Abrahamyan ensured his interlocutor that as RA NA Speaker he would do his best for boosting the contacts between two peoples.
President Zatlers expressed his gratitude for warm reception. He noted that the Latvian side also highlighted the development of the bilateral cooperation. In that context he stressed the respect and interest that the Armenian and Latvian peoples mutually have in the sphere of culture.
During the meeting the interlocutors highlighted the circumstance that about 60 Latvian businessmen accompanied the delegation led by President Zatlers. Within the framework of discussion of trade-economic cooperation the interlocutors also touched upon the issue of organizing Armenian-Latvian business forum to be held in Riga in the future.
During the talk the sides also discussed in detail the perspectives of cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Latvia.
In that context they highlighted the necessity of fully using the potential of parliamentary diplomacy through mutual visits at different levels and programmes of exchange of experience.
At the meeting Mr. Abrahamyan and President Zatlers also discussed the process of Armenia’s European integration. They stressed in particular the EU Eastern Partnership parliamentary format.
During the talk the sides also touched upon the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations without preconditions, as well as Artsakh problem.
The President of Latvia also made notes in the Honorary Guests’ Book of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
