The Netherlands, as a founder-member of the European Union and one of the promoters of the European values, is an important counterpart for Armenia. The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan noted about this during the meeting held with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Armenia Nico Schermers on April 20.
The sides discussed issues relating to the last developments, the regional security and the development of the Armenian-Dutch relations. Special attention has been paid to the development of the inter-parliamentary relations, and the Netherlands-Armenia friendship format formed in the parliament of the previous convocation can be a good basis for that.
The Committee Chair presented to the Ambassador the situation created around the Nagorno Karabakh. Issues on the return of prisoners of war, the Armenian cultural heritage in the Nagorno Karabakh and a number of other issues were touched upon.
The problem of the recognition of the Genocide by the Netherlands, as well as the resolution adopted by the parliament in 2021 were referred to, where by quoting its previous resolutions on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the parliament called on the Government to ultimately and distinctly recognize it.
Nico Schermers also presented the programmes being implemented in Armenia by the Embassy and discussed the upcoming joint work to be done.
