At the extraordinary session convened on June 29, the parliament debated the issue of the election of Candidate Nominated for a vacant position of a judge of the judicial composition of the investigation of the corruption crimes of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of Court of Cassation.
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) nominated the candidacies of Rubik Mkhitaryan, Arsen Nikoghosyan and Artur Sargsyan for that position.
The SJC member Davit Khachaturyan presented the candidates’ biographies and the career path.
The other candidate, Arsen Nikoghosyan, noted that the corruption is a grave disease, against which we should uncompromisingly fight. He also noticed that it is necessary to refrain from temptation. The candidate considered important the role and the significance of the Court of Cassation in the fight against corruption.
The fact that it is for the first time the Anti-Corruption Chamber will be formed through elections, was stressed.
The candidate Artur Sargsyan underlined the important role of the Anti-Corruption Chamber in the fight against corruption. According to him, the Court of Cassation should review the judicial acts, which distorted the justice. The replenishment of judges was emphasized, which would give an opportunity to facilitate the loading of the courts.
Artur Sargsyan deemed important the restoration of public trust towards the justice.
On June 30 at 11:00, the National Assembly will continue the work of the extraordinary session.
