My proposal refers to the representatives of the national minorities who have left our country before 1995, and who expressed wish to return, an opportunity will be given them to receive the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia (RA) in simplified order, which is reserved only to the Armenians by law. The Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan said during the working discussion initiated by him.
On November 16, the item on Creating Legal Opportunities for Granting the RA Citizenship to the Yazidis by their origin born in the RA in Simplified Order.
The deputies of the NA Civil Contract Faction Knyaz Hasanov, Aleksey Sandikov, the Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Armen Khachatryan, representatives of the Government, the National Security Council, the Human Rights Defender, Police, the Migration Service and the Yazidi community took part in the discussion and presented observations.
“We try to create legislative preconditions on receiving citizenship of the Republic of Armenia for national minorities with the amendments to the law on RA Citizenship,” Rustam Bakoyan noted. According to him, ‘national minority’ notion should be set by law, which will let to comprehensively regulate the law.
Armen Khachatryan proposed to improve the preliminary version of the presented draft law. Knyaz Hasanov stressed the necessity of the adoption of the law on National Minorities. Aleksey Sandikov proposed the attendees to include the relevant provision – ‘on the citizens having permanent residence by the last census,’ in the legislative initiative.
The discussions on the issue will continue in the near future.
