The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs Heriknaz Tigranyan participated in the 2022 Global Symposium on Population Aging and Low Birth Rate, organized by Statistics Korea (KOSTAT) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), on November 8-10 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
About 120 parliamentarians, ministers, policy makers, representatives of academic and civil society from different countries presented the trends of demographic development and the steps taken to support reproductive rights in different formats of debates and discussions.
Although global population growth will continue in the coming decades, population aging and low birth rates are a serious challenge for almost all countries. For example, population decline is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon in Europe and East and Southeast Asia, which creates new challenges and opportunities for countries and continents. These shifts in the population structure are characterized by a decline in the birth rate, an increase in life expectancy, and an aging population. The number of countries affected by these changes is steadily increasing.
During the discussions, Heriknaz Tigranyan presented the existing demographic problems in Armenia and the steps taken by the Government in order to improve it, in particular, the development of the demographic strategy of Armenia, which is urgent, taking into account the demographic challenges facing the country and their significant impact on the development of the country.
