Don’t be lazy to read, because each page of each book will open a completely different world for you. We all have favorite books since childhood that we like, and they are supplemented with new ones every day: the MP of the Armenia faction Elinar Vardanyan said at the meeting with the students, headmaster and teachers participating in the reading marathon announced at Anton Chekhov Basic School No. 55, hosted by parliament on February 21, on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.
The NA deputies of Civil Contract Faction Arsen Torosyan, Alkhas Ghazaryan, Hasmik Hakobyan and Hakob Aslanyan also met with the guests.
The Headmistress of Anton Chekhov School Diana Minasyan, speaking about the marathon, informed that most of the participants read more than five books in less than a month.
Remembering their school years, the deputies talked about the books they read and told about the impressions they got.
Arsen Torosyan mentioned that he read most of the books in the early 90s by candlelight, and added that they were more impressive. "The books we read leave “dust” on us, with which we become rich. Get rich and enrich others with knowledge and culture, because books are not only knowledge, but also culture,” the deputy said.
Alkhas Ghazaryan was honest in her conversation with the students, talking about the books she read and her longing for reading. She noted that during her school years she read fiction, historical literature, and already during her professional studies - technical literature. “Now I miss the years when I had a lot of time and opportunity to read my favorite books. The day is symbolic, because it is Mother Language Day, and I want to value our Armenian language once again,” Alkhas Ghazaryan said during the conversation with the guests.
“Reading a book is a value creation system, it is an opportunity to get to know yourself and life,” Hakob Aslanyan said. As a former pedagogue, he urged children to understand life properly and added that the books they read will help them throughout their lives.
The MP Hasmik Hakobyan made a request to the students to make reading contagious. Emphasizing reading, she said that by reading she serves as an example for her daughter. According to her, her example was successful. The little girl asked Santa for a book as a Christmas present. The MP urged the students surrounding them to love books. Speaking about the manifestation of love for the Armenian language, Hasmik Hakobyan mentioned: “The role of the Armenian language has been of strategic importance in our lives since the early beginnings of our history.”
During the conversation, the guests presented their impressions of the books they read to the deputies. Readers were interested in the authors preferred by the MPs, favorite and even disappointing books, in particular. In this context, Elinar Vardanyan mentioned that Hovhannes Tumanyan's story Gikor touched her a lot in her childhood. According to her, that work is preferable to be read at an older age.
The MP Hasmik Hakobyan underscored that she likes to read works of Armenian classics, and often reads the works of contemporary writer Davit Samvelyan as well.
The meeting participants expressed their satisfaction with the meeting with the deputies, noting that this was an opportunity to get to know the deputies who are fond of reading.
The legislators exchanged ideas with schoolchildren about the works of Armenian and foreign writers.
The students were wondered whether parliamentarians often use the NA library. The deputies mentioned that the parliament library is rich in professional literature, which helps them during their legislative activities.
“Life should be filled with books that are full of life:” the students prepared small souvenirs for the deputies with such a note.
The Commercial Director of Edit Print Publishing House Areg Karapetyan, summing up the marathon dedicated to the International Mother Language Day in parliament library, awarded the students with books.
