On October 18 RA National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan received the Vice Speaker of Seimas (parliament) of Lithuania, head of Lithuania-Armenia Friendship Group Algis Kašėta.

After the meeting a solemn ceremony was held: the Vice Speaker of Seimas of Lithuania Algis Kašėta was awarded RA NA Medal of Honour by Hovik Abrahamyan’s order for supporting the recognition of the Armenian Genocide resolution by the Seimas of Lithuania and the process of its approval.

Handing the award to the Lithuanian guest Hovik Abrahamyan highly assessed Algis Kašėta’s contribution in the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Seimas of Lithuania and noted that his visit would promote the activation and development of bilateral relations between Armenia and Lithuania. Taking into account that Algis Kašėta was the head of Lithuania-Armenia Friendship Group RA NA Speaker expressed conviction that the visit would also be a serious impetus in enlivening the inter-parliamentary relations.

The Vice Speaker of Seimas of Lithuania, head of Lithuania-Armenia Friendship Group Algis Kašėta thanked for the high award and said that this was the award of the Seimas of Lithuania and the deputies, who worked for strengthening the relations between two countries. Algis Kašėta noted that the crimes against mankind should be condemned, and on December 15, 2005 the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, marking the 90^th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, adopted a resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, where, condemning the Armenian people’s Genocide, which was perpetrated in the Ottoman Turkey in 1915, called on Turkey to recognize that historical reality.

The Vice Speaker of Seimas of Lithuania expressed confidence that the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and peoples would continue and develop.
