RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan Meets the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov

On November 29 the RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan met with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The Chairpersons of the RA NA Standing Committees and the members of the Armenia-Turkmenistan Friendship Group were attending the meeting.

Welcoming the President of Turkmenistan in the National Assembly, the RA NA Speaker expressed conviction that Mr Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Armenia would give new impetus to deepening of bilateral relations and further development. The NA Speaker highlighted the activation of trade-economic ties and the deepening of cooperation in scientific-educational and cultural spheres. In the context of development of relations of the two countries Hovik Abrahamyan deemed necessary the activation of inter-parliamentary relations and the cooperation in international parliamentary organizations.

Thanking for warm reception the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed the warm greetings of the Speaker of the Turkmen Parliament Akja Nurberdiyeva and the invitation of the official visit. To Mr Berdimuhamedov’s conviction, the deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation will essentially promote the activation of bilateral ties in all directions. He deemed important and useful the experience of Armenia in the sphere of legislative reforms. Highly assessing the development of cooperation of the two countries the President of Turkmenistan noted that his country was concerned about developing the trade-economic and scientific-cultural ties with Armenia and said that in a number of spheres documents aimed at expanding and developing cooperation between the two countries had been signed. Mr Berdimuhamedov noted that a business forum would be organized in Ashgabat in 2013 to boost the trade-economic cooperation and invited Hovik Abrahamyan to take part in that event.

In the course of the meeting issues concerning the regional problems and other issues of bilateral interest were discussed.
