Nikol Pashinyan: Right of return of refugees to Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent areas is recorded by Trilateral Statement, but until now this right of our compatriots is not realized
During the National Assembly-Government Q&A session, the member of the Civil Contract Faction Vilen Gabrielyan informed that the violated rights and social problems of refugees were discussed at the conference held in Yerevan. The adopted declaration also stated that according to international agreements, refugees and forcibly displaced persons have the right to voluntary return to their homeland or the part of the homeland where it is possible to ensure their physical security, political or civil rights. “I wonder about the position of the RA Government regarding the raised issues and whether the Republic of Armenia, as a state, plans any institutional approach to raise the rights of these people in international courts,” the MP asked.
The RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that he is aware of the conference and stated that the issues raised are legitimate. According to the Prime Minister, there are citizens in Armenia who have become refugees as a result of the massacres in Baku and Sumgait, as well as other actions that took place in the territory of Azerbaijan. Nikol Pashinyan mentioned that there is also the problem of refugees from Nagorno Karabakh and its adjacent areas, which is recorded in the Trilateral Statement of November 9. “I am also aware that the representatives of Nakhijevan Armenians also attended the conference. I think that the issue is extensive and needs to be studied additionally,” the Prime Minister noted and added that, if necessary, a working debate will be organized with the participation of non-governmental organizations to understand what expectations these people have from the state, and which are within the scope of the service of the Government.
