On May 10 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan received the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Special Representative on South Caucasus Joao Soares.
Highlighting Mr Soares’ visit to the region the NA President noted that it was a good opportunity to get acquainted with political situations in the South Caucasus countries on the spot, as well as to discuss the issues of common interest. Hovik Abrahamyan has noted that Armenia greatly highlights the cooperation with the OSCE, as well as the support of the organisation in the process of the ongoing democratic reforms in our country. He highly assessed the role of the OSCE PA in the development of the inter-parliamentary dialogue.
Touching upon the regional problems the NA President has noted that Armenia emphasizes the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs in the process of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement as a functioning and only format of the negotiating process and is consistent for the settlement of the problem only through peaceful means. To his conviction, any effort of the conflict settlement through military can have unpredictable consequences not only for the conflicting parties, but also for the region.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Special Representative on South Caucasus has noted that their wish is to have stability, peace in the region, and the conflicts be solved as a result of peaceful negotiations. He highlighted the development and deepening of the efficient cooperation existing between the OSCE PA and the RA National Assembly.
In the course of the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
