RA National Assembly President Galust Sahakyan Sends Congratulatory Message on Armenian Press Day
1 / 1

The NA President’s congratulatory message reads:

“Dear representatives of media, I congratulate you on Armenian Press Day.

You are the ones who continue the history of the Armenian press, who today write that history yourselves with your every day and every hour activity, covering the country and man's life through your speech and word, photo and shot, care and joy, recording a problem, demanding and proposing a solution. Your work is not a mere record, which only documents and sums up the phenomenon and event, especially when in the modern world everything often changes with the speed which does not tolerate slowness and moreover circularity. You are the society and state’s all-seeing eye, and its objective never has the right to deviate from the path of fairness and telling the truth, which cannot be indifferent and without feelings towards everything, what happens around, in the state and public-political life.

The legal field existing in Armenia and the public-political life provide such an environment for free speech and publicity, where the citizen and the state’s voices are mutually reachable. The complicated and responsible mission of the mass media is to make perceivable and understandable those voices to each other by serving unbiased information, without causing intolerance and evil, misunderstanding and incomprehension. The indifference and self-interest contradict the journalist’s profession, because the trust that is displayed towards the journalistic word is very big and the consequence of losing that trust for the media and the journalist is equally painful.

The solution to the political, economic and social problems also depends on the very citizen’s activeness. With that respect in the formation of the citizen’s civil position the media play an important role, fully making use of the opportunities given by the freedom of the Constitution. The Armenian mass media family with its professional activity proposes a wide palette of opinions and evaluations. As a result, the path of the effective dialogue between a citizen and power is always open and active, the formation of the public opinion is a non-stopping process, and from all these both the state, the society, and of course, the right to speak and act freely win at the same time.

I wish all of you health, welfare and non-extinguishing creative imagination. Let the optimism and inspiration always accompany you during your whole activity, promoting new ideas and projects to be called into life.”
