Import of Genetically Modified Organisms to Armenia is Designed to Restrict
The genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can be imported to the republic for only implementing research examinations: the Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan noted while presenting for debate in the first reading the draft law on Genetically Modified Organisms and the package of the co-legislative initiatives at the NA regular sitting.
The draft regulates the legal relations connected with the restrictions of the use of the genetically modified organisms and those issues. The draft law will restrict maximum the use of the genetically modified organisms in the whole territory of the Republic of Armenia. It is expected that in case of the adoption of the draft the establishment of the import, move, transportation of the genetically modified organisms will result in the rise of the geological security of the country and the level of the preservation of the population health and the regulation of the legal relations regarding their use.
The NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment endorsed the draft.
